Stop the Madness With Form Spam Blocker

This script or concept will help you to nearly eliminate form spam. The caviate to this is the added input from the user. This simple process I have found to be easy to impliment and shuts down about 90% of form spammers. This solution is also FREE and can be used in any language. We have all seen the "Capcha" graphic and trying to read those and get them right from the user perpective is a pain in the ass... This solution will ask a very simple math question based on random and realtime values. You may use any parameters that fit your need. For the largest possible audiance you want the equation to be very simple yet more of a pain for the spammer to provide the effort to break.

Form Spam Stopper

This code is not going to stop all spam and may drop some submissions but it may be the lesser of 2 evils.. On the first pass through we use a random number between 2 and 10 to then be added to the date.. this could be the month or any other value that can be changed.

The random number is then passed in the form and subtrack or add when when processing on the other side. The form spammer would have to be pretty serious about spamming your form to solve your equation. I have this implimented on many sites and has stopped multiple posts immediatly. I still get the a few but I am assuming thats when they are actually on my websites.

This code is in ASP but you can apply the concept to any language, ASP.net, PHP, Javascript..

UPDATE: (Content Spam)

do you ever get emails that look like giberish with links in them.. this is content spam.. they are hoping that your email are published and are in some way indexable. Heres my most recent attempt to shut them down... Simply look for link code in a form submitted to you and shut it down before it even hits your mail server.
